Can you Pick it Up?

So apparently in order to run faster, one must practice running faster! Hah! yes, I will have to go along with that premise, just somebody tell my legs!!! Today was my speed work day. The goal of today’s run was to run 6×400 intervals at my 5k pace sandwiched between one slooow mile each for a warm up and cool down. SInce I haven’t ran a 5k race in a number of years I am taking a stab at what a fair time might be for me. I hope to run a 5k race sometime within the next 2 weeks so I will have a much better idea of my pace.   Let me just say I am not a fast runner. I think I will be very lucky and happy to run a half marathon in under 2 hours. But I confess, that is the sort of goal I have set for myself. Time and training will tell if that is realistic.

Since speed is not my strong suit I felt quite validated when I came across the NY Times article today discussing the merits of running in moderation (distances less than 20 miles a week at 10-11 minute/mile) vs doing nothing or running distances greater than 20 miles a week. Here is a link to the article:  Sorry, but I haven’t figured out how to do that neat little linky thing yet. Bear with me. Anyways, while I may be a wee bit faster than those times, I feel like my running is on the right track.

My iphone battery died about 2/3 of the way thru my run today so I am a little weak on the picture front. Here’s what I got:

Fresh snow in the mountains.

And I leave you with a Gus shot:
